BRIEF
The client approached the practice to produce a feasibility study for the reordering and extension of this mid 20th century bungalow. The clients wish was to extend vertically, converting the bungalow into a house and following sensitive negotiations with the local planners the proposals were granted permission in early 2014.
CHALLENGES
The existing building is situated on a road with a diverse range of building types, despite this the neighbouring properties are both two storey, setting a strong precedent for the buildings two storey extension.
DESIGN SOLUTIONS
Ensuring the proposals building lines and fenestration respected the adjacent properties, whilst ensuring the functionality of the interior was not comprimised and provided the necessary space the client desired was essential in gaining planning permission.
