BRIEF
The client approached the practice to produce a sketch scheme for the extension of this mid terrace 3 bedroom home, to provide an additional reception room that seamlessly linked the adjacent lounge and garden.
CHALLENGES
The client did not want to extend the building across the full width of the garden to minise the loss of light through to the lounge, thus the design needed to respect the existing fenestration.
DESIGN SOLUTIONS
To maximise the useability of the space both internally and externally corner bi-fold doors were proposed to enable the client to either fully enclose the extension as an addition to the lounge or open it up to form an intermediate space or extension to the adjacent decked area. A flat roof with integral roof light and sedum roof were also proposed in addition to a profiled oak board elevational treatment.
