BRIEF

To reorder and extend an 18th Century Georgian Cottage that had been extensively remodelled in the early 20th Century. The client wanted to re-face the existing building with an imposing Georgian façade improving the buildings relationship with the garden and adjacent roadway whilst vastly increasing both living and sleeping accommodation for their family.

CHALLENGES

The site lay within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and any addition to the existing building would be required to contribute positively to the house and its setting. The three different phases of development to the property required careful consideration of circulation to ensure step free access where possible without compromising the overall aesthetic and functionality.

DESIGN SOLUTION

The Georgian façade was positioned to the rear of the property, accessed via a new swept driveway that contained vehicular and pedestrian access to the new stone portico and entrance. An Orangery with extensive glazing was provided adjacent to the Kitchen for entertaining also providing easy access to the gardens which had been lovingly restored by the client.
