BRIEF

To produce a feasability for the residential conversion of the Grade II listed Thornham Friars Coach House in Thurnham, Kent.

CHALLENGES

Despite the building having been relocated to its present site in the 18th Century, a significant amount of the buildings historic fabric remained intact. Decay within the roofspace and in particular to one of the principle trusses was resulting in a thrusting movement causing severe cracking within the flank walls. The building currently occupies a precipice with a fall of almost 10 metres and the client sought to construct a cantilevered extension emerging from the hillside.
